Of standard specifications with a slightly lighter blade measuring 32″ in length and just under an inch across the ricasso.  Solid guard with floral piercing and George V royal cypher and turned down inside edge.  Blue/grey ray skin covered grip with three core wire binding.  Pommel and back strap in good clean condition.  The guard has lost its top layer of plating and is now showing the copper underwash used in the plating process.  The blade is florally engraved with a “GR V” royal cypher matching the guard. on the same side the initials of the original owner “R.B.H”.  One side of the ricasso has the Wilkinsons style brass engraved proof disc with the word “PROVED” embossed within.  The makers area is blank.  There is some minor pitting at the point and the blade is generally turning an even grey all over with slightly more pitting patches on the obverse.  Altogether an honest Model 1897 with a tired leather covered scabbard in brown, with lose stitching – however, it does still offer protection to the blade.
