Excellent scope Model 1895 Marlin in .45-70

DSC_0399

Once again a rifle obtained in a Mid-West American bankrupt stock auction.  Imported by Sword & Musket, stripped, proofed and now presented for sale. Chambered in .45-70 with a half-length magazine which should take at least four rounds with one in the chamber.  Serial number “92028103” on LHS of blued action.  At the breech end of the barrel on the LHS is the all important “JM” mark.  The rifle is fitted with a cross bolt safety as standard.  It has a pistol grip walnut stock with factory checkering to the grip and to the fore-end.  The only possible reason why this rifle was lounging in a gun shop in the US without going out to sale is the slight incorrect fitting of the cushioned rubber butt-pad.  It has been fixed on slightly off center, so when it was trimmed down to fit, the steel plate within has been ever-so slightly exposed.  Personally, I do not think it detracts from the shooting experience but, if the new owner wanted one fitted it could be done with little problem.

The rifle is 40.1/2″ in overall length including the rubber butt-pad.  The round blued barrel is 21.7/8″ in length and the trigger pull is 14″ to the centre.  The rifle appears unfired.  It is presented in a totally clean condition with absolutely no build up of any shooting detritus.  The walnut stock is very good condition with a tiny nick to the edge where the butt-pad was fitted.  Double Marlin sling swivel attachments and a unused contemporary adjustable sling.  As standard the rifle came with its buck-horn open sights and wide angle front sight hood.  Additionally, a scope rail has been fitted on top of the action. On top of the rail is a water proofed rubber coated 3-9 illuminated reticule mill-dot scope with excellent optics.  The illumination feature is fully functioning.

The bluing on the action and barrel etc is fine with no visible problems.  The action is smooth and has passed British proof.  The bore is in perfect condition with no visible faults.  An excellent heavy hitting lever action rifle in a good calibre.  Its gotta’ be done !
