Excellent U.S. Springfield Krag Model 1899 Service Carbine

In the standard military caliber .30-40 (.30US)

Serial number marked on Action 230581 indicating production in 1899 when Springfield produced a total of 5150 carbines.

Blued 22″ barrel with fixed blade foresight and carbine rear sight. 98% of origional blued finish remains on barrel and reciever, including dappled coloured heat treatment finishing on action and magazine. Good walnut stock and handguard with minimal dings and dents. Stock shows firing proof mark “P” & “21” behind trigger guard. Steel buttplate with trap for cleaning kit. Three piece rod and steel oil bottle included within. On the left-hand side of the stock there are the clear Inspectors marks “J.S.A.” over the date 1899 within a block. J Sumner Adams inspected all arms from June 1894 to January 1904.

 

Single blued barrel band. The weapon has the headless cocking piece which was introduced in May 1899 but discontinued in October 1900.

A fine Carbine in excellent condition with a good bore. This piece would make a very usable and unusual addition to any collection.
