Model 1898 Springfield Krag Rifle
Serial number 330784 for 1901 .30-40 (30.US) caliber.
Receiver marked “U.S. / MODEL 1898. SPRINGFIELD ARMOURY 3307842” with very good case colour hardened magazine side plate and blued opening hatch. Receiver finished in a good blue. Nitre blue extractor. Bolt finished in the bright turning to grey. All other fittings, barrel, bands, swivels, trigger guard and steel butt plate blued. Butt plate has trap for oiler which is included. 1901 (Buffington) pattern rear sight graduated to 2000 yards.
Wood work in good standard condition with full length stock and short length handguard. American black walnut – oil finished. Inspectors cartouche on left of wrist stamped clearly “J.S.A. / 1901.” Behind the rear tang is the following stamped into the top of the wrist “4 / E / 14”. Just behind the trigger guard underneath “60” and the final inspectors “P” mark. There is a half inch by half inch chip out of the top of the stock infront of the top tang of the buttplate.
The rifle has two sling swivels and a stacking swivel. This weapon benefits from having a strong rifled bore and a fine smooth action.
