Antique Winchester 1876 Lever Action Rifle in Obsolete Caliber .45-75 WCF

This fine Winchester was manufactured in late 1884. This is the model with the rail for the dust cover integrally machined in the receiver. The serial number 54637 is on the lower tang. Dovetail front sight with silver blade, and standard 1876 folding leaf rear sight. Caliber is marked on the top of the barrel and on the brass follower underneath. The top of the barrel in front of the rear sight is marked “WINCHESTERS REPEATING ARMS. NEW HAVEN.CT./ KING’S-IMOROVEMENT-PATENTED-MARCH 29. 1866. OCTOBER 16,1860” Full length tubular magazine. The model designation is marked on the upper tang in script. The hammer and the lever and the lever are casehardened. Plain straight grip stock and forend with a blue finish iron forend tip and crescent steel butt-plate with  brass trap.

Condition: The whole piece has a nice all over mottled red-brown patina showing some surface scratches and dings with some hevier patches of pitting along the top of the barrel. The frame has a mottled brown patina showing edge wear as well as scratches and a few patches of pitting. The wood is very good with minor scattered scratches and pressure dents. The action is mechanically fine.
