The very robust and reliable Colt New Service
Excellent Colt New Service 6 – shot revolver with swing out cylinder and 5.1/2″ round barrel. Chambered in .455 Eley. Serial number denotes pre’ 1919. These sturdy revolvers were in constant production for 46 years! Double and single action. Checkered Hard rubber grips with oval Colt roundal, two piece. Swivel landyard ring at base of frame. Rampant Colt logo on LHS of frame.
British proof and Crows foot military acceptance markings on LHS of frame. Barrel marked on LHS ; “NEW SERVICE .455 ELEY” Top of frame grooved to form rear sight, with “U-type” aperture at rear. Swing-out release catch on LHS, at rear of cylinder; pull to the rear and push cylinder out to the left. To eject spent cases, press spindle from front toward rear, this raises the central star and drive spurs, to dislodge the cases, and they are tipped away. All six come out in one swift movement. Fluted outer cylinder.
The top of the barrel is marked with the full colt legend;-“COLT’S PT FA MFG CO HARTFORD CONN. USA. / PAT AUG 51884 JUNE 5 1900 JULY 4 1905.” Blued finish all over except side of hammer – polished steel. No pitting . Finish fading in places, the most at the muzzle. Excellent bore, no pitting or disruption, very clean and bright. Cylinders all clear. The finish indicates proper use but much care taken in cleaning and maintenance. A solid sturdy revolver that has the feeling that it it would’nt let you down. Last proofed (Nitro) in London in 1987.
