Genuine US Issued USMC Unertle 8 x Magnification scope
I can not stress enough what a rare oportunity this is to purchase the genuine article on this side of the pond. It is only through an elabourate and elongated set of circumstances that this scope is where it is now. All we do know is that the scope is actually upon this island of ours due to the service of a genuine U.S.Marine who moved here some years ago.
The scope comes in an original green Mycarta Can of 26″ inches in length. It is approximately 3″ in diameter, has a screw on dome shaped cap which is retained from loss by a green webbing strap. On the rear is the usal USMC pattern webbing attachment which would allow it to hang from the waist. The outside is green and the inside unpainted; this shows the “grain” of the mycarta. At the base of the can is a sprung platform which cussions the scope from shock whilst it is stowed.
The scope itself is 23.5/8″ on overall length. Both ends have steel screw on caps to protect the optics. These scopes were ordered in 8 x magnification. There is a ring at the rear of the tube with a flat at the twelve oclock position with the single digit “8” marked into it. Behind that a locking ring which fixes the adjustable focus ring when in the correct position.

Markings: on top of the tube, toward the rear simply read; “J.UNERTL / USMC-SNIPER /1303” This is entirely correct as expected, the serial number is within the know issue range. As would be expected with an issued scope, the recoil spring is absent. These were taken off in the field as the soldiers found them a cumbersome irritation. They were prone to getting undergrowth tangled up within, so the men trained themselves to manually return the scope into position before the next shot. The external gimbles (mounts) have sprung bearings pressing on the tube which allow the scope to travel under recoil. These leave wear tracks on the tube which this example shows along the top.

One of the gimbles runs along a longditudinal top rail which keeps the sope upright, this has adjustable stops at each end. The tube is of 3/4″ diameter. The object lense then flares from this point to about 1.3/8″ over which is a ring with a graduated distance scale. It is graduated showing “50 FT / 25 YDS /50 YDS / 200 YDS.” However, these scopes are credited with kill shots of record distances for the time both in the Pacific Island campaigns and in Korea. Upon the end is a long sunshade. This as mentioned above has a steel cap with a very fine thread, currently the shade has received an almost inperceptible dent which has disrupted the thread and the cap will not quite screw on. Irritating, but it does show it has been out of the box.
Simple plain very fine cross hairs and very good optics. No blume or other common lense problems. If you have the correct Springfield 1903 then this is the moment you have all been waiting for. Its the only genuine article I have seen whilst working in this field. Now is your chance.
£ 6000.
