1950’s Colombian Mauser

Not a rifle to turn your nose up at.  What we have here is the perfect combination of long distance, flat flying caliber, with the most accurate action of the time, all rolled up into a K98 package. And! at the same time being one step removed from the sought after Czech VZ 24.  A special order of unknown quantity produced for the Columbian military in 1950.  A stocky and strong compact Mauser in a solid hardwood Walnut pistol grip stock. No finger groves, dark oiled timber and practicle stock fittings. Classic early Mauser locking screws all in position. The bore on this particular rifle is excellent condition with a good depth of rifling, especially for .30-06.  It is clean, bright and free of any disruptions.

The “Short Rifle” measures 43″ in overall length.  The round blued barrel is a nominal 23″ and the trigger Pull is 13″ to centre.  Straight arm bolt with standard Mauser three position safety.  All parts are finished in a good strong black with little edge wear.  The magazine follower and cleaning rod are in the white. The mid-band and front “H” band are secured by individual springs.  The surface of the timber shows minimal damage, considering the military life the rifle has experienced.   The action is smooth and mechanically fine.

Being an FN Mauser the markings are slightly different.  Upon the receiver is the Colombian crest of Eagle, flags and a shield with the following arranged around it; “COLOMBIA / FUERZAS MILITARES” On outer left wall of the action; “FAB.NAT.D’ARMES de GUERRE / HERSTAL – BELGIQUE” An easy identifyer is the “.30” on top of the rear action bridge. Belgian Tower and Leige marks plus BNP marks on the LHS of the receiver.  The serial number “06968” on the RHS of the same.  Full length handguard surraounds the rear sights but ends about 1″ beyond the mid-band. Tangent rear sights graduated to 2000 meters.  The adjustable slide of the same bares the CZ circled Z.

Standard 5-round internal staggered magazine with flush removable floor plate. Flush shaped butt-plate with dark plum brown patina.  There is photographic eveidence of these rifle being ised as late as 1980.  This is a chance for the Mauser collector to fill an important slot in the collection, which rarely occurs.
