Browning Model 1886 SRC ………………………….. (F 1238)
Created on October 25th 2025
Fine Browning Mod’ 1886 SRC.
Brownings’ first design for Winchester on lever action rifles which mainly enabled the lever action rifles to handle the bigger game cartridges. The locking levers added to the action ensured the safety of the bolt under higher pressures, these are easily visable when viewing the carbine from above. This example is chambered in the classic “.45/70 GOVT.” This faithful reproduction of the Model 1886 Winchester is presented as Saddle Ring Carbine (SRC). Over all the weapon is 40.3/4″ in length. The round blued barrel is 22″ long with full length tubular magazine under. The trigger Pull is 13.1/4″ to centre.
Another notable feature is the “Musket-style” steel butt-plate. The weapon is blued (black) on all parts except the afore mentioned locking levers which are in the white. Two piece walnut stock – pale finish. Single barrel band and the saddle ring mounted on the LHS of the action. The carbine presents the same weight as the original, which is an advantage considering the possible recoil. Serial number under front of action reads “20620/NY1C7”
The upper tang is marked “BROWNING MODEL 1886” Slightly obscured by a sight mounting screw which remains in position minus the sight. Standard rear sights with flip-up facility and graduated ladder 0 to 20. Brownings Utah company marking on barrel LHS with caliber marking closer to breech. Excellent bore, nitro proofed. Item in excellent overall used condition. A rare rifle in that only 7000 of these were manufactured in 1986.
