No 5 Jungle Carbine in 9mm Parabellum
An interesting way of shooting and owning a Jungle Carbine-Type rifle. Hand-built by a UK Gunsmith with current British Proof Marks. A single shot version of the famous WW II carbine built for use in the Jungles of the Far-east and beyond. However this re-build has been chambered in the much cheaper to run 9mm Parabellum. It retains many carbine feature and is in very smart condition – having been completed recently.
The carbine is built on an FTR factory receiver with clear Savage marking upon the outer wall of the action. Markings on that wall include a solitary crows-foot. Lightly engraved; “/51 72C4712. No 4 MkI/3 (F) FTR” The flaming grenade and “S No4 MKI*” The original Savage serial number “72C4712 / B” number appears on the LHS wrist outer. The rear of the bolt arm has been force-matched with the serial number. The removable bolt head is a No 1 fitment. The bolt arm head is hollow.
Woodwork is very good as altered with a regular No 4 butt-stock and grey alloy butt-plate with trap. Pressed steel type magazine with another serial number upon the underside. The flash hider has one cross pit to fix it to the barrel. The weapon is 38.7/8″ long. The barrel is 20″ and the Pull length is 13.1/2″ to centre. The carbine is fitted with the correct aperture battle sight and a flip up long range adjustable ladder sight graduated only to 800 yards.
Magazine contains split follower which is fixed, the rear half actin as the ejector. To operate simply place round in chamber, close bolt, etc when complete, simply pull back bolt and the spent cartridge will be ejected. A good WW 2 Sling has been included with the sale. The woodwork is in splendid condition and the finish over the balance of the piece is very good. A very cheap way to shoot a classic at short range. In an unusual calibre (9mm) worth exploring.
