1903-A3 Smith-Corona U.S. Bolt Action Rifle….SOLD

Created on November 12th 2011

03-A3 Smith-Corona U.S. Service Rifle in .30-06 caliber

The standard issue U.S. Army’s World War Two Bolt Action Service Rifle.

Chambered in .30-06.  Serial number 3694750.  43.1/2″ in overall length.  Barrel 24″.

The breech is marked ” U.S. / SMITH-CORONA / MODEL03-A3 / 3694750″  90% of the rifle has been finished in a light grey parkerisation which looks to be the only finish the rifle has had.  The only other parts still correctly in the blue are the magazine cut-off lever and the Smith-corona chequered steel butt-plate (with cleaning trap).

All the ancillary components, the barrel band, nose cap and bayonet fitting and trigger guard are the later pressed steel parts.  The barrel is marked “S.C. / flaming bomb / 5 -43” behind the front sight ramp.  The rear sights are the sliding aperture type mounted on the rear of the action.

The rifles stock is the scant two bolt type with semi-pistol grip, in fine American Walnut, it is in very good condition as is the plain handguard.  The stock is devoid of cartouches except one star stamped behind the rear sling swivel, but has an excellent finish overall.  Internal 5 shot magazine with Mauser bolt system and flag safety.  The finish over the metal work of the whole rifle is excellent with only a few minor breaks in the parkerisation on the high points of the trigger guard and front sight ramp.

4 groove barrel with excellent bore – no corrosion. The smoothest parkerised action I have yet come across.

Definately a shootable rifle which may have not been used in anger but is ready to take its position in a WW2 collection.
