The Classic U.S. Service Rifle.

This superb 1903 Springfield is probably one of the nicest Springfields’ that I have had the pleasure to handle and parting with it will not be easy.

24″ round barrel, parkerised finish with excellent walnut stock. This is a fine example of an early post WW1 rebuilt service rifle. The top of the receiver is marked “U.S. / SPRINGFIELD / ARMOURY  / MODEL 1903” over the serial number and the barrel is marked “SA / ordnance  bomb / 7-18” It has the correct milled bands, trigger guard and floor plate and the later-pattern, service rifle style ladder rear sight graduated to 2700 yards without the notch on top. It has the dish sided windage and elevation knobs and a fixed blade hooded front sight. The stock is the correct two bolt, finger groove straight grip “S” pattern stock that shows the cartouche in a box “A.A.J” and the circled “P” behind the tirggerguard. The rack number “107” is marked on the heel of the stock in behind the trap in the steel butt plate is the correct nickle plated brass oiler. The bolt is marked with a “6  7” on the  bolt handle flat and the breech has the two gas holes. The Rifle is complete with an original brown leather sling which is marked “R.I.A / 1917/H.G.”

Condition: This 1903 Springfield has been Arsenal refurbished. The rifle retains approximately 90% of the finish on the barrel, receiver and trigger guard with minor thinning on the receiver. The butt-plate has a smooth brown patina. The sling is very good with some light wear and stains. The stock has been cleaned and is in excellent condition with very few handling marks. All markings are clear. The rifle is mechanically excellent and rifling in the bore is strong. It would be hard to improve on this rifle.

British London proof marks have been applied sympathetically in 2007.
