Created on November 3rd 2012

Standard Issue WW2 Remington 03-A3 U.S. Service Rifle

Chambered in .30-06.  43.1/2″ long.  Round grey parkerised barrel 24″ long.  Serial number 3524640 for February/March 1943.  The  parkerised breech marked as follows; “U.S. REMINGTON / MODEL 03-A3 / 3524640”   %-shot internal magazine with fixed pressed steel floor plate.  Magazine cut-off to rear of action.  Open ramp style aperture rear sights mounted on rear of action.

The barrel is marked behind the foresight; “R.A. / flaming bomb / 3-43”  which tallies with the serial number.  Single blade front sight.  Excellent four groove bore.  The bolt is a swept handle type and is marked with all the correct Remington marks.  The mixture of finishes on a Remington of this era is absolutely correct.

The stock is in very good condition and is the two cross bolt type, as opposed to pins.  All the pressed steel stock fittings are Remington marked.  The steel checkered butt plate is blued and has the trap for cleaning equipment to be stored in the butt stock.

Markings on the stock are correct for an original Remington stock; on the left wrist of the weapon is the boxed “FJA” for Frank J Atwood.  The “RA” and the crossed cannons.  Under the pistol grip is the final inspection circled “P” and in front of the magazine floor plate are the factory sub-inspectors marks as usual. The stock has no blemishes, splits or cracks and looks to be unused.  the two sling swivels are both marked “R” as is the bayonet nose-cap.

An A3 waiting to be owned with pride again.
