16 Bore Officers Pistol…..SOLD

Created on November 14th 2008

An Officers 16 Bore Flintlock holster Pistol by Swinfen, Maidstone

A fine example of an Officers pistol made at the height of the flintlock era. Flat stepped lock decorated with sunbursts. Swan-neck cock with safety catch, the lock engraved with the makers name “SWINFEN”.  9.1/4″ damascus steel browned barrel, marked along the top flat “SWINFEN. MAIDSTONE” A stand of arms engraved on the rear barrel tang and once again on the trigger guard. Plain iron mounts with plain pineapple finial infront of the trigger guard.

Three quarter stock with horne tipped fore-end. The stock exhibiting a deep rich coloured timber and the kind of patina that takes hundreds of years to fully mature. Fine chequering on the pistol grip. The bore is in fine condition only showing a mild surface rust.  Silver foresight with rear V-notch sight on the rear barrel tang.

Horne tipped walnut ramrod. The pistol has suffered the dents of time but not so as to detract from its appearance. Good working order and condition. There is the slightest hint of a break in the stock about the grip but if so it has been long repaired and sympathetically done.
