Beautiful Cased English Transitional revolver with accessories by Frederic Barnes & Co.

No visible serial number.   .36 caliber percussion muzzle loader.

3.3/4″octagonal blued barrel. The rest of the action cylinder etc is a blue/casehardened finish. Made by Frederic Barnes & Company.  The top of the barrel is marked “BARNES & CO LONDON.”  The cylinder is plain – unfluted with British proof marks on each chamber. The front of the cylinder being border engraved. The sides of the frame have scroll and border engraving. The backstrap, hammer, trigger guard and the compartment door are also nicely engraved. The English walnut grips are finely checkered. This transitional revolver is complete in its original oak case with brass screws and escutcheon on the lid. All compartments are lined in green baize. The case contains a brass powder flask and cleaning rod, Union Metallic Cartridge Company cap tin with caps in, a nipple wrench with wooden handle, bullet mold and approximately 25 round lead balls. The inside of the lid has a label attached which reads “Fredc barnes & Co. /Gun Makers / and sword cutlers / 109 Fenchurch Street / London.

Condition: Excellent. The barrel retains about 90% of the original blue finish with a high degree of shine remaining. The balance of the metal parts retain about 70% of the original bright casehardened colours. There is some minor pitting on the face of the cylinder. All nipples are in good condition and appear to be original to the gun. The grips are excellent showing no wear and virtually no marks. The barrel markings and engraving are sharp. The case is very good considering it has taken the major battering that time has thrown at it. There is one minor crack on the back of the lid and minor dings. The interior is very good with a couple of reassuring stains and wear marks from the revolver.
