Rare Cased Percussion Revolver by Barnes & Co’ of London

A rare and unusual revolver in 58 bore by Barnes & Co’ of London. London proofs appear under the barrel and on the cylinder. 6″ octagonal barrel with plain brass front sight and decorated muzzel. The top of the barrel engraved “BARNES & Co. LONDON”. The barrel retaining the most finish though showing much use.

Beneath the barrel and frame wedge is located the leverage point for the unusual loading mechanism. The revolver does not have a permanently attached loading lever. Instead, the bullet mold has a securing point to attach a ramrod and a hooked end to engage with the afore mentioned securing point. Consequently the weapon is lighter in use and does not suffer from the loading lever dropping down whilst in use as with some other types especially when they become worn. This gives the revolver a more streamlined look and with its good sized grip, excellent balance in the aim.

The weapon is a six shot double action revolver (action needs attention). Large trigger guard, engraved action and spurless hammer. Finely chequered walnut grips with a trap in the engraved buttplate for caps.

All over dark grey to plumb brown patina. The english style case is of oak with a lined comparmentalised interior with accessories. The steel bullet mold is marked “54” Nipple key and pricker. Brass and copper powder flask. Dixon & Sons oil bottle and rosewood cleaning rod. The key and escutcheon are missing.

A nice solid percussion revoler in need of some TLC.
