Mint Condition No 4 Mk II Rifle
Immaculate, as the day it was issued; only recent proofs applied. Held in a private collection, not shot at all! Fully matching, and as it should be. Part of the so called “Irish contract” but in fact never delivered. Serial number; “A2791” prefixed by “UF 55.” Chambered in .303 with a ten-shot detachable box magazine with serial number applied to underside – matching. All markings applied by electro-pencil. Action and all other fittings finished in matt black (Serekote)- no wear. Butt plate brass, with cleaning trap containing correct brown plastic oil bottle.
The “UF” in the serial number is taken to mean that this rifle was produced un the United Kingdom at Fazakerley, the 55 the date. The A prefix indicates it was one of the last produced. Of standard specification being 44″ in overall length. The round blacked barrel is 25.1/8″ long and the trigger pull length is 13.1/4″ to the centre. No 1 fitting bolt head. Production codes on all components indicate Fazakerley, for instance the rectangular cocking piece has “F53” on the lower portion. The serial number is repeated on the rear of the curved bolt arm.
Clear clean markings on outside of action wall read as follows;- “No4 MK2 / UF 55 A 2791.” A small gas escape hole is drilled in the receiver ring on the LHS. Safety catch to rear of action on LHS. Two sling swivels fitted. Front sight with guard and bayonet lugs at muzzle. Excellent unblemished beech woodwork. Many stampings pressed into underside of buttstock, under wrist. Serial number clearly visible on underside of fore-end – matching.
Superb, brand new clean 5 grove bore. Fazakerley marked flip-up rear sight and battle sight. Ladder graduated from 200 to 1300 yards in excellent working order. It is not possible to fault this rifle. Comes with correct wide bladed No 9, bowie type bayonet (non-matching) but with frog and scabbard. This is a top condition collectors rifle.
