Standard Issue WW1 British Bolt Action Service Rifle in .303

Serial number on the breech is J21706.  Overall length 44.1/2″   Barrel length 25.1/2″   Trigger pull 13.1/4″.  Detachable ten shot magazine.  Enfield bolt with D-shaped cocking piece, bolt numbered to another gun.

The butt socket marked as follows;  “Crown / G.R. / B.S.A. Co’ / 1918 / SHT. LE. / III*”  Bolt head with a clear “U” marked on it. This is an armourers mark meaning a fitted part with a difference in specification, ie that the part is un-hardened or untempered. Never the less this rifle has passed british proof recently.  The rifle has the normal loading bridge for loading using clips. Ordinary safety with the “III” marking.

The blunt nosecap is marked with a matching serial number on the bayonet stud.  Two sling swivels.  Brass butt plate with trap for cleaning equipment.  The wood work has been replaced recently but is the correct original enfield woodwork with inspectors stamps.  The butt is marked with “S.L.” behind the trigger guard indicating Standard Length. Early dished rear sight protecting ears.  The rear sights are graduated from 200 to 2000 yards, there is no provision for windage adjustment.

The action cycles well and the bore is excellent with strong sharp rifling. There are numerous enfield inspection stamps on many parts of the rifle.   This is a good late First War Short Magazine Lee Enfield waiting to be shot again and owned with pride.

£450.
