British Warrant Officers Naval Sword…..SOLD

An interesting Warrant Officers sword c1825-32

Made by Read & Son of Portsmouth and remaining in fine condition.

                    

27″ Straight fullered blade with crowned GR cypher trophy and floral designs. Strong traces of original gilt on the straight stirrup hilt, langets and fouled anchor.

Interesting unusual chequered Ebony grip bound with wire, forward sloping plain pommel and fluted back strap. Brass mounted black leather back strap with two suspension rings. Original Stitching is intact down full length of scabbard seam.  Engraved pannel on reverse of top chape with makers name, “Read / Sword Cutler / Portsmouth”

                 

In good condition and a rare sword in todays market, valuable part of any serious naval sword collection.
