A rare chance to acquire three superb matching K98 Mausers
Three matching K98 Mausers have emerged from a secretive collection and Sword & Musket has the privilege of offering them for sale on the collectors market.
These rifles were US bring-backs which were imported to this country thirty years ago and have since resided in a collection known for its fastidious attention to detail. To purchase these now and import them would be an extremely expensive operation which, eventually will become cost prohibitive, unless something major changes. There seems to have recently been a gold rush effect on Classic Rifles in the USA. And remember they say, “When American sneezes the UK catches a cold”. The folks over there are labouring under the distinct impression that the authorities are soon going to take away all their toys! Don’t get me wrong, in no way do I pass judgement on the gun laws out there but, it is pretty clear someone has to do something, to reduce the death toll associated with our collecting interests. However, American logic has jumped many steps ahead and assumed that these classic battle rifles are going to be next on the list. Or, if they take away the black rifle then the next best thing if one has to defend ones spread is our particular area of interest.
If you then couple that with the dreadful exchange rate and the increase in charges wrapped around air freight because of COVID. Then customs clearance on these things is starting to get very expensive. We still have to think about our government wanting their half a cow out of us for duty and VAT. So these fine and increasingly rare pieces have to be offered at a price which covers all of this for this company otherwise, we will literally crash and burn as a business. Rare things now afford rare prices but of course quality always counts, and that’s what is the motivation behind still trying to access these higher condition examples. There will always be a supply of shot-out mixed component rifles available on our small island, but finding something of a far more collectible grade, that will hold its monetary value is more of a challenge.
If I wasn’t doing this as a business I would keep them all but alas….!
