Japanese Arisaka Type 99 Rifle………..SOLD

A Japanese Arisaka Type 99 in 7.7mm

Serial number 45280 21st series.  Kokura Arsenal.  This is all marked on the LHS of the action body.

The breech is marked with the Chrysanthemum and Type markings, highlighted in white.  This Type 99 was produced  between 21/03/42 and 22/10/42.  The whole weapon was arsenal finished in blue/black which is wearing evenly to a pleasing patina with most thinning around the muzzle and the magazine floor plate. The steel butt-plate is almost completely brown now.  The bolt was finished in the white but has now turned mostly to plumb brown, although the sprung extractor is blued. The bolt head has the rather elaborate but pleasing geocentric pattern on the back.

Standard Japanese two piece lower stock and separate handguard, both in fine condition showing few scratches or dents from normal military usage. It also has finger grooves.  There are no splits or cracks.  The rifle has its two side mounted sling swivels but the wire monopod is missing, these particular rifles were never fitted with the wire monopod. Cleaning rod also AF.  Fore end nose cap has the bayonet lug attached.

Bore good, action fine.  Single point guarded front sight and excellent anti aircraft and ladder rear sight still completely intact. This is a nice example of the Type 99 and not an easy rifle to find in the west these days.

This rifle truly shows the extremes of warfare that the Japanese soldier was going to experience once thrown into the melee.  At one end of the rifle he has the bayonet attachment which links him to the earliest pikeman on the battlefield, and at the other end the extraordinarily ambitious anti-aircraft sights!  If that isn’t covering all bases in one weapon, I don’t know what is?
