An rare and usual rifle to find on these shores;

Japanese Arisaka Type 38 Bolt Action Service Rifle

Of standard military specification.  Mauser style bolt action with straight bolt handle and sperical mushroom shaped safety at rear.  Overall length 50″.  Barrel length 32″.  6.5mm caliber.

 

Serial number 21750 and Kokura (Tokyo) Arsenal Stampings on side of action. Action dustcover AF.  Good clear chrysanthemum mark on breech, and 25th series mark.  This dates the rifle to approximately the 1920s.  The action retains a good degree of  blued finish.  Rear sights are ladder type marked up to 2400.  Nicely functioning action.

Full length dark wood stock – two piece with forward finger grooves.  Steel buttplate and two sling swivles. Steel nose cap houses cleaning rod and incorporates bayonet fixing lug, The exposed area of the barrel also displays a good degree of finish.  Internally the bore has Metford rifling which is in the usual Arisaka condition and will carry on regardless for many years to come.   Magazine floor plate release catch within trigger guard.

An interesting addition to any military rifle collection.
