Finnish M27 Nagant Rifle by Tikka………( F 885) SOLD

Created on December 14th 2020

A Good Example of the Tikka built Model 27 Nagant Infantry Rifle

This rifle is the sturdy and highly accurate Finish built Mosin-Nagant  produced in 1932 by the Tikkakoski factory.  These rifles were made in  between 1927 – 1940.  They were a considerable improvement on the original Russian examples.  Most were built from captured rifles taken from the Helsinki Arsenal during 1917-18 so they all have hexagonal receivers. Chambered in 7.62 x 53 with an internal 5-shot magazine.  One of the main differences was the 26.3/4″ heavy barrel.  The rifle measures 46.3/4″ in overall length and the trigger pull is 13.3/4″ to centre.

This rifle bears markings on the round breech section of the barrel which detail its origins, it is marked as follows; “”T” within a triangle / “D” / 56378 / F /1932″ On the LH side of the same is a boxed “SA”  for Finnish Military ownership. The “T” is the mark for the Tikka Factory.  The serial number is repeated on the spine of the bolt adjacent to the bolt arm.  Short straight arm bolt.  The rear sights are the older Russian type but are graduated in meters.  The front sight is protected by side ears and is adjustable by movement of a dovetail.  Hinged nose cap with bayonet lug on underside.  This once again is the earlier type with what are sometimes referred to as “popsicle” sides.

A full length cleaning rod is stored under the barrel.  The rifle has the early type sling attachment points with slotted metal escutcheons.  Artic Birch straight wrist stock and finger groves.  There is also and additional rotating sling swivel on the underside of the butt-stock.  Curved steel butt-plate marked “H” on the tang.  The most interesting thing about this rifle is a cartouche on the LHS of the butt.  It as a small roundel of about 3/4″ diameter, it is very difficult to read but appears to say; “DEUTSCHES REICH” with an Imperial German Eagle inside the letters.  This presents a strong possibility that this rifle served in WWI and was captured by Imperial German Forces.  It has then been sent on to Finland as Military aid from Germany.  This rifle has had a long and chequered history.

Condition is fine, blueing is strong.  Bore is good.  This rifle oozes history especially when you consider that the famous Finnish Sniper Simo Hayha used a very similar rifle in the Finish Winter war.
