WW II Russian Mosin-Nagant Carbine

The famous Russian WW II Bolt Action Carbine by Mosin-Nagant with folding bayonet.  Chambered in 7.62 Russian with an internal single stack magazine.  Bolt finished in the bright the balance is blacked.  Serial number is “T90728” on the bolt and the round receiver.  Laminated stock with slots cut for sling and separate handguard.  Finger-grooved fore-end with two barrel bands.  The butt-plate is contoured to the stock and has the serial number faintly electro-pencilled into the tang.  The same serial number appears on the base-plate of the magazine adjacent to the original number which has been struck out. Correct period sling available with carbine.

The carbine is fitted with the sprung, folding, cruciform bayonet which measures a nominal 14″ in length.  Overall this M44 is 40.1/4″ in length.  The round, blacked barrel is 20″ long and the trigger pull is 13.1/2″ to centre. Within the underside of the stock is the cleaning rod.  The carbine is fitted with the correct carbine sights which are graduated from 1 to 10.  The front sight is a single post type within a protective ring.  When the bayonet is in its extended position the whole rifle is 51.3/4″ long.

The rear of the barrel is covered in multiple markings including from the front backwards: ” the hammer & cycle within a wreath of laurel (Crest of the Soviet Union)/ the box outline (refurb mark for Grau Arsenal) / 1945 r (r =date) / T7928 / the arrow within a triangle of Izhevsk.” Also visible is the “y” within a circle; the original black powder proof.  Also the internal rectangular box mark of refurbishment in a Ukraine arsenal.  Various other markings appear all over the rifle.

Straight, short arm bolt.  The bore is in very good condition with no pitting or misting.  Strong, clean RH twist rifling for the full length of the barrel.  German CIP proofs. Government health warning:  These 7.62 x 54 carbines kick due to the short length of the barrel buyer beware! An excellent piece of Russian history that resisted the onslaught of the German war machine and eventually pushed it back all the way to Berlin.
