1894 Winchester in .32-40……………..SOLD

Created on October 1st 2012

A good Standard Winchester 1894 Model, serial number 825803  in .32-40 caliber.

This item can be sold as an antique and requires no license, as it is of Obsolete Caliber.

The serial number puts manufacture in 1917, though it is probable that the barrel has been replaced at a later date with a genuine Winchester barrel.  Indications to this are a perfect bore and the fact that the octagonal barrel has not been fully turned in and has been left with the address and caliber markings on the flat next to the top (at 45 degrees), then the dovetails have been corrected by a gun-smith to accept the original sights. The groove for the extractor is in the correct position at the top, now I am starting to wonder if this barrel was produced with the markings on the wrong flat in the first place!   Apart from this fact the gun is entirely as it left the factory.

Overall length 44″  Barrel length 26″   Trigger pull 13.1/8″ to center.  A classic Winchester Steel crescent moon steel butt plate, two piece American Black Walnut stock showing light handling marks with a good overall even shine to the finish of the timber.  Bluing has lost what would be expected from a 95 year old rifle with a reasonable amount still on the action. High edge wear noticeable on the barrel.  Full manufacturers address and patent dates on the top 45 degree flat, as with caliber markings.

The upper tang is marked as follows; “MODEL 1894 / WINCHESTER / TRADE MARK REG.U.S.PAT. OFF & FGN”  The serial number is on the underside of the action next to the for-end.  The caliber markings are on the top 45 degree flat (.32-40)  Standard open Winchester ramp rear sights, with silver bladed foresight.   Full length tubular magazine under the octagonal barrel.  A classic collectors rifle with a quirk.  The fully functioning Winchester safety acts on the loading lever under the rifle.  The action is fine and cycles correctly, is firm and positive.  A Classic Winchester rifle.
