A good Ruger Old Army Revolver in a contempoary rosewood fitted case

A modern twist on an old concept.  The Ruger Old Army revolver – possibly the best incarnation of the front stuffing old timers, made in recent years.  This is a .45″ caliber muzzle loading six shot revolver made from predomintly stainless steel; purpose being, to ensure longevity and to aid with cleaning and maintenance.  It is immediately obvious that this revolver has after market grips which on closer inspection turn out to be of the “Pachmayr” variety.  This weapon comes in a recently built solid rosewood, fitted case with space for all the accessories needed for a good shooting session.  It is fitted with a leather carrying handle on the RH end of the case, as we see it above, and is lockable.  It is possible to carry the complete outfit, by the handle, vertically, without items moving around inside the case.

To quickly summerise the items within the case, there are the following; Two extra cylinders ( additional FAC slots may be required, depending upon you local force) Uncle Mike’s powder flask, cleaning rod, two capping units and a Leatherman multitool.  Additionally, underneath the covers of the centrally fitted box, there are three compartments capeable of holding ball, wads and cap tins.  The original Ruger screw turned and nipple wrench is also included.  There is also a pistol length cleaning rod.  Fixed to the inside of the lid of the box is a loading rest which enables the user to load within the confines of the case.  Everything you need for a nice morning out !

The revolver.  The serial number “145-87953” is clearly marked on the LHS of the frame, below the cylinder.  “RUGER  OLD ARMY” is on the obverse.  The Old Army has a 7.1/2″ long barrel with a 6-groove RH twist bore.  This example is spotless with strong clear rifling.  Externally, the revolver is in good condition with slight hints and traces of very light rust within the seams and around the front sight.  This is nothing that a good clean and lube’ would not put pay to.  There is also a small amount of rust around the front sight.  The blacking around the spring and adjuster of the rear target sight has failed.

There is more than one cylinder for this revolver.  All of them are Ruger original cylinders, all marked; “FOR BLACK POWDER ONLY”.  All are UK proofed as is the actual revolver.  Timing is perfect, lock-up spot on.  The revolver does feel “used” but nothing perhaps a replacement spring might not take care of, if the shooter doesn’t appreciate the lighter trigger.  It is very difficult to break a Ruger and this one attests to that.  This Ruger Old Army can be supplied with one to three cylinders and is superbly presented in its fitted case with a substantial quantity of extras – ready to shoot.
