Carcano M38 Rifle with Knife bayonet
Extremely fine condition M38 Carcano Short Rifle chambered in 7.35mm. Bolt action which takes a 6 round Mannlicher clip in a fixed box-type magazine. Serial number “S 6464″ marked on RHS of breech. The rifle measures 40″ in overall length. The round barrel is 20.3/4” long and the trigger pull is 13″ to centre.
A neat short length rifle chambered in 7.35mm with a fixed rear sight (at 300 meters) Simple turn-bolt system with safety, finished in the white. Finish blued all over – in very good condition, typical of these rifles with the Finnish connection. The rifle is marked on the breech as follows; ” boxed S.A. / Crown motif / R.A. / TERNI ” The boxed SA stamping is the ownership mark of Finland’s military. However once they had arrived in Finland they were not well received by the troops and many of them never saw active service. This explains the excellent condition of the stock and the blueing on the rifle. The RHS of the breech has the date of build; “1939XVIII” The fixed rear sight is marked “CAL. 7,35″ Rifled bore with RH 10” twist.
Unusually, the bayonet on this model is a knife type and is included with the rifle but is non-matching. Finger grove stock with side mounting for sling (black leather sling available – not pictured) Fittings all have a high degree of strong blue as finish. High gloss finished butt-plate with trap for cleaning equipment – empty.
The knife type bayonet has a steel scabbard and is 12.1/4″ in length. Wooden grips with sprung catch for fixing. Single edged fullered blade measuring just under 7″ in length – fine condition. Hilt strap marked with inspectors stamps and serial numbered “M 91838” Fits well to rifle with positive “click” when in position.
Another collectible Axis rifle in the more powerful calibre and in fine condition. Fresh proofs applied.
