Single Shot falling Block Rifle in .45-70. Under lever with dual adjustable set trigger. Heavy Octagonal Barrel. Case-color hardened Finish to action. Straight grain hardwood stock & fore-end. A faithful reproduction of the original with an equally accurate period reproduction Malcolm Six Power scope mounted on top.
The specification for this weapon is widely available on the net, so there is little point is going over every small detail, of which there are plenty. The client has spent a good sum having the scope correctly set up. Whilst in his possession he has only put 100 rounds through it, the edges have hardly been knocked off the lands. Wood to metal fit is excellent and the finish is a plain matt spray which protects the timber. The action is mechanically fine with positive movement of the Sharps falling block system. Strong colours on the action add an extra feeling of pride to the whole experience of using this superb heavy rifle. The rear trigger sets it’s forward counterpart with a audible click and then when in position on the front trigger just a gentle squeeze will send the hammer forward. It is a very positive set-up.
The screws to take a rear aperture tang sight are in position on the rear tang, just in case you get tired of hitting the bulls eye with the Malcolm 6 poser scope. The excellent copy of the Malcolm scope has is of steel and brass construction with good detail to the brass locking and adjustment rings. The external gimbals have been fitted by a Scottish gunsmith who is fully conversant with this type of mounting system. The scope end caps are turned solid brass and the reticule is a plain fine cross hair. The optics are very good and clear with no contaminates on the image.
The rifle is 99.99999% perfect but it is pre-owned. Bore perfect. Metal finishes perfect. Stocks perfect – finish tiny usage marks on toe of butt-stock. A chance to pick up a complete kit which has taken the owner considerable effort to pull together for a much reduced price.
