Israeli Defence Industries UZI Carbine by Walther

How much Fun can you cram into one gun?  When I were a lad, I used to just sit and stare at images of things like this in my various catalogues and dream of owning an UZI 9mm!  They were the in thing.  Films and TV programs were rife with them.  Little did I know that one day far off in the future I would be able to come this close to owning the real thing.  What’s the hitch?  Answer; the calibre and current firearms ownership rules. Of course the dreadful Hungerford event had not happened at that time.  Nor had Dunblane or any of the other things that we, as shooters and collectors, have had to shoulder the blame for.  However once in a while something comes along that reminds us of those heady days of firearms ownership and this, in its own little way, does just that.  Functional and un-unnervingly simple in design and construction this little brother to the real thing is just pure fun to own.  Ironically, made by the German firm Walther, this iconic Israeli weapon is perfectly legal to own on a section one firearms license in the UK.  Reason being the calibre;- .22 LR and the fact that it operates only as a semi-auto.

This example is in practically unused condition.  serial number W1012266.  Measuring a compact 850mm with butt fully extended.  The barrel is a nominal 18″  (460mm) the majority encased in a faux silencer tube.  The trigger pull to the butt (extended) is 16″.  The butt folds down reducing the total  length to 665mm or just over 26″.  Side mounted sling bar on LHS of stock.

Construction and build exactly as described on Walther’s web site.  Flip-over aperture L-shaped battle sight rather like the No4 with two sizes of hole. Adjustable front post sight.  Safety catch on LHS of grip.  Magazine release catch at base – same side.  20 round stick mag.  Grip safety to rear of grip. Cocking handle on top of action.  Action will hold open when rounds are expended.  Realistic feel to the weight of the weapon.

Fun; comes as an obligatory, unseen extra & unavoidable side effect !
