Holland & Holland 12b Hammergun………….SOLD

Created on July 21st 2008

A Fine 12b Holland & Holland Shotgun

s/n 11038 indicating from Holland & Hollands’ records that it was completed 28th September 1886 for a Mr Clowes and unusual in that it was specially ordered with a 15″ stock, which it still has. The stock is lightly oiled with a satin finish and good checkering about the wrist and forend.

Fine brown Damascus 29.1/2″ barrels with top rib inscribed “HOLLAND & HOLLAND. 98 NEW BOND STEET. LONDON. – WINNERS OF ALL THE ‘FIELD’ RIFLE TRIALS.1883” Choked at 1/4 and Cylinder. The trailling locks have “HOLLAND & HOLLAND” inscribed behind the rebounding hammers. Double triggers with a rotary underlever. The barrels have suffered from the black powder use, the left bore showing the most internal pitting. Horn buttplate. Silver button foresight.

Carefully and sympathetically reblued, rebrowned and refinished stock, a glimpse of a Holland & Holland from 125 years ago, lovingly restored to its former glory. A rare piece of English gunmaking history.
