Martini-Enfield .22 Smoothbore Shotgun……..S 67 SOLD

 .22 Conversion by W.W. Greener now Smoothbore

Built originally in fully military specification by Enfield in 1874 and full calibre of .577/450.  Measuring 46″ in full length, with a 30″ barrel and a trigger Pull of 13.3/4″.  Drop block action by short lever in the true Martini-Henry fashion.  Single shot with cocking indicator on the RHS of the flat action.  The RHS being marked; “V.R./ENFIELD/1874/  Crown over WD arrow/II/2″ Thumb indent cross hatched to top rear of action. “S -X / back to back R” over top of action.  The LHS of the action marked clearly; “CONVERTED FOR THE N.R.A. BY  W.W. GREENER.” Then the serial number appears below that line of “927”

Tow-piece military woodwork with steel butt-plate with “WD” marked upon top tang. Enfield roundel cartouche on RHS of butt with various roman numerals beneath of; “III/I” plus other numbers but no Nepalese indications.  Woodwork nicely finished with all the normal indications of a military life underneath.  Steel barrel and sword bayonet lug on RHS at front, including two sling swivels.  Rear mounted upon front of trigger guard.

The flat -topped breech is marked “AMMUNITION /.22.”  The serial number repeated upon the breech LHS. Proof marks including recent up-to-date markings and “.22 L” and “SMOOTH”.  Original rifle sights all intact – front and rear. The top of the round barrel is marked between the rear sight and the mid-band as follows ;- “W.W. GREENER.  BIRMINGHAM”.  Action mechanically fine, lever and trigger guard pitted with even corrosion the metal finish is dark but blotchy: overall plumb brown patina.  Bore is excellent – no pitting.  Cleaning Rod absent.
