Good Swedish Model 1896 Infantry Rifle

Accurate, Sleek, Slender and beautifully put together.  Almost over-engineered.  Chambered in 6.5 x 55 Swedish.  5-round internal staggered magazine with Mauser straight arm bolt and three position flag safety.  Straight grip one-piece beech stock with hand-guard over the barrel to protect the rear sight.  Built by the Swedish manufacturer Carl Gustfas.

This M96 infantry rifle measures 49.1/4″ in overall length.  The round blued barrel is approximately 29.1/4″ long with a stepped muzzle to accept a bayonet.  The trigger pull is 13.3/4″ to centre.  The main receiver ring is marked as follows; “Swedish crown over CG logo / CARL GUSTAFS STADS / GEVARSFAKTORI. / 1919.”  The serial number is marked on the outside of the action wall; “467839” and the factory inspectors initials “H.K.” Helge Kolthoff  was in that post from 1912 to 1923 which fits with the date on the receiver.

The superbly engineered bolt and magazine follower are polished and finished in the white.  They provide a handsome contrast to the blued receiver and balance of the rifle.  There is some mild indication of use to the blue but generally it is strong all over. The stock is beech with a bore condition disc mounted on the RHS of the butt-stock.  The rifle is matching in that is carries the last three digits of the serial number on all the relevant parts including all the bolt parts.  There are strong nitra-blues to springs on the bolt release catch and the rear sight.  Multiple Swedish crown inspectors marks all over.

There are two Carl Gustafs horizontal Crown cartouches impressed into the underside of the butt-stock.  Two sling swivels and full length cleaning rod under barrel.  Stepped rear sight graduated from 300 to 600 meters in the down position and 700 to 2000 meters in the upright position.  Simple blade from sight adjustable through dove-tail on block.  Strong rifling super smooth action.
