SWEDISH M 94 CARBINE…………..SOLD

Created on January 31st 2012

A Carl Gustafs M94 Swedish Carbine made in 1917

Of standard carbine specification at 37.3/4″ overall length.  The barrel being 17.3/4″ long.  In very good condition with some mixed numbers, although bolt and action match. Chambered in 6.5 x 55 Swedish, with a 5 shot internal magazine and Mauser bolt system.

The breech marked as follows;  crowned Gothic “C,G” logo / CARL GUSTAFS STADS /GEVARSFAKTORI /1917.”  The action side-wall with the circular indent cutout to facilitate loading by stripper clip is marked with the serial number 90077, and the inspectors initials “H.K.”  Helge Kolthoff inspector at the factory from 1912 to 1923.   The serial number matches production data for 1917.  Bore good to excellent.

There are numerous Swedish crown inspectors marks on different components of the carbine and partial serial numbers (077) on others.  The main components of the bolt, which effect head space match namely, the body/handle are marked 077.  The cocking piece, shroud and safety are numbered to a different weapon (060).  The bolt is finished in the white as is the magazine follower and show little or no loss of finish.  The bolt handle is the folded down type.

The correct carbine sights are crown inspected, numbered to the rifle and graduated to 1600 meters.  The steel blued butt-plate is also numbered to this gun. One can only wonder how and when these weapons became mixed (numbers) but, a third weapon now creeps into the equation –  in that the magazine floor-plate, front band (which carries the side mounted sling swivel) and the blunt nose cap with SMLE bayonet boss, are all numbered to a weapon with the serial number ending 55.  Was it intentional or a mistake?  Just part of the history behind the inanimate object we now hold in our hands.

The stock is in very good condition with NO dents or scratches, it has finger groves and is made in red beech. On the right hand side of the butt-stock are mounted, the range trajectory plate, the two screw brass unit disc, and the leather and brass buckled anchorage for the side mounted sling.

The range trajectory plate was a conversion table fitted instead of changing the existing sights. It gave the shooter adjusted settings on the original sight for the new m/41 spitzer ammunition which was introduced by Sweden in 1941. The plate is enameled brass and mounted it seems upside down until one thinks about ease of use for the shooter.

The unit disc is clearly marked for use by the coastal artillery, it reads as follows; ” 5/ K.A. 2.” over “No 77.”  The brown leather sling anchorage is in fine condition with a brass buckle.  The general condition of the blue is very good all over. There is about 5% wear in total all over, mostly on high edges and a  small amount of colour loss in front of the magazine floorplate surround. This has come about by a contact from the front hand when the rifle is in the firing position and positioned by the finger groves in the stock.  The bore is very good with no pitting and strong rifling.

This is a rare rifle to find in good, shootable condition, with some visable provenance.
