Fine K31 Schmidt-Rubin in Walnut Stock

Built to standard military specification in 7.5 x 55mm with a six shot detachable box magazine.  The serial number is 778315 and is full matching throughout and indicates production in 1943.  This rifle does not have a tag under the steel butt-plate – long lost.  This K31 has been stocked in an attractive European Walnut with a semi-pistol grip and hand guard over the barrel that protects the rear sights.  An unusual feature of the Swiss stocks are the staggered finger groves in the fore-end but they work extremely well.

Once again I am not going to repeat all the whys and wherefores of the design and choice of this weapon by the Swiss – it is all on earlier pages and applies to all K31’s.  This K31 has its serial number in all the correct places and has the last three digits on the barrel shank step – denoting original barrel to rifle.  The full number is seen on the Bolt,  Action, underside of magazine and inside the woodwork.  Swiss acceptance or ownership shields are also observed over the rifle in all the right places including the RHS of the butt.

The K31 is equipped with a shorter stroke straight pull system than its predecessors and has an alloy handle. Bolt release catch on lower RHS of action.  Magazine release to RHS of magazine.  Large ring cocking piece. Superb large Swiss shield on crest of action.  Standard rear sights graduated to 1500 meters.  Front blade sight in sliding dovetail for adjustment.  Steel stacking hook under muzzle with bayonet fitting.  Clean convex muzzle crown to barrel.  Side mounts for sling.

Bluing is original over action with slight thinning and edge wear to high spots.  Action smooth and mechanically fine.  Bore can only be described as superb, clean clear with strong rifling- thank God for non-corrosive ammunition and good Swiss cleaning routines.  Remember everyman was responsible for his own personal weapon, if it was found to be wanting this was a big failure on his behalf.  Also they constantly compete in competitions.

Superbly restored and attractive stock – though I say it myself…!
