Very Rare Ross Model 1912 Straight-Pull Training Rifle

On this side of the great waters a very rare find freshly proofed in the UK and ready for release.  A .22 calibre straight-pull Ross Model 1912 training rifle.  Overall length 39.3/8″.  Round blued barrel 21.1/4″ long.  Trigger Pull 13.3/4″  Single piece hardwood stock.  Steel butt-plate with brass trap for cleaning equipment (A/F)  Semi-pistol grip stock with considerable repair around action.

These rifles were obviously developed as a training aid for the full bore version the military of Canada were equipped with so the choice of straight-pull action is no mistake.  It functions perfectly but requires manual loading as the rifle is not magazine fed. This may just have been too much to cram into the small frame of the rifle. However, the mechanical motion and the functions it cycles through are very similar to its larger counterpart.

Steel trigger guard with a cross trigger safety mechanism, fully operable.  Height adjustable single post aperture rear sight – very “Victorian“. Dovetailed front sight.  Three sling swivel points.  The steel nose-cap still retains a splendid blue about it.  The round barrel and action are both loosing a high degree of finish but what is remaining, is turning a pleasing plumb-brown.  Short, fixed bolt handle which sits at 90 degrees to the action – mostly silvered.  Steel bow trigger guard, finish, about fifty-fifty.

The top of the action is marked along its spine;- ” ROSS RIFLE COMPANY. CANADA. 1912  /  PATENTED.”  Serial number “12760” stamped into LHS of barrel knox area along with original Kings acceptance marks and modern day CIP proofs.  At some stage in the past some brave soul has replaced all the timber around the action with one piece of timber, in a fine and well executed repair.  Stock otherwise in good condition with smooth patina to the surface and even colour all over.  Freshly imported from Canada, a rare opportunity on the English market.  Bore not pitted; shinny and clean with complete rifling. Now known to be accurate.

Rare opportunity and a smart little rifle to-boot!

Stock No F 1109
